In 1869 this palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as an homage to Richard Wagner. Ludwig himself lived there for only severlal months, he died before the castle was finished completely.
Today it’s one of the most famous and beautiful castles in the world. More than 1.3 million people visit it annually, with up to 6,000 per day in the summer.
