This Lotus was just starting to close where I arrived, so I only got some of it. Even so, what a nice flower. This pond here is full of hundreds of them, as you can see from the blurry background.
There is a great zen tale about lotuses that involves a koen and the responses one monk gives.
A monk asked Chimon, “Before the lotus blossom has emerged from the water, what is it?” Chimon said, “A lotus blossom.” The monk pursued, “After it has come out of the water, what is it?” Chimon replied, “Lotus leaves.”
Ponder on that while looking at the photo 🙂
