Parlor door

From my last views while scurrying around this shack, I caught sight of the fancy paneled front door and immediately focused in on it. Here is the lean-to addition’s front door and it seems there was a period of a modicum of rural prosperity when America bought food locally, that brought new additions to the prairie shack. Original homesteads screamed the need for wallpapering inside to keep the weather out, especially if this door couldn’t. Originally, this must have shown off the new prosperity to neighbors arriving in wagons and horseback on neighborly chats about when the heck was it going to rain unless, of course, when will the rain stop. This front door was pretty spifferoony. Prairie class, certainly!<br />

This new ell-style addition with shaped lap siding shows on the southwestern corner. That dates the prairie shack to the original and the more sophisticated attachments that came decades later. This mail-order front door shows off their new addition. Check the old Sears catalogs for their offerings of mail-order front doors. HA!

I didn’t spy a single gravel pit pond around here, not even a tail water collection pond near, just dirt. Was this an area of dry lands farming and a load of prayers? It surely looks like it. Ranching is the answer here… if methane could be kept down by feeding the cattle grass instead of corn to ruin their diet… and ours.

We are shooting well northeast of Pondmont, Colorado along I-25 north to Wyoming. Living here provided a great, if distant, view to the hills. eDDie tracked me down Friday night and after breakfast with [Wyoming Wanderer] Frank, eDDie and I trekked out to shacks directly along I-25 and I almost filled my film card for the very first time with these collapsing shacks. We accidentally hit unexpected killer skies that developed in the middle morning. If spring drops some rain, steer them here.

The day tapped us out while it was still morning after all the road tripping and scurrying around. Even eDDie got tapped out. Clouds were starting to stream in from the divide and punch up the afternoon sky after a mid
-day crash. Time to bail again! Weather jumps around wildly in the valley and we received two dismal days here – unusual.
