All Saints’ Church is the parish church of Runcorn, Cheshire, England, sited on the south bank of the River Mersey overlooking Runcorn Gap. There is a tradition that the first church on the site was founded by Ethelfleda in 915
THE BEGINNINGS
At that time England was divided into several small kingdoms. Ethelfleda was Queen of Mercia, middle England, bordered by the Mersey on the north. In this year she came to what is now Runcorn to build a fort on the bank of the river at its narrowest point, where the railway bridge now stands, and as might be expected from the daughter of her father, she built a Church nearby.
